Niagara Falls

If you’re planning a visit, stay on the Canadian side. I love you, USA, but the views, walkability, and overall experience on the Canadian side are hard to compete with.

First up: yes to the touristy things. They are absolutely worth it here.

There are several tour options, and many offer package combinations. Each one provides a different perspective and interesting information about the Falls. Walk along the railings. Feel the mist. Take the boat tour. It’s all part of the experience.

Yes, Do the “Touristy” Restaurants

Sometimes you should lean into it. Sitting high above the Falls while eating is part of what makes Niagara memorable.  Each one was so awesome!

Consider:
Skylon Tower Revolving Dining Room – panoramic views as the restaurant slowly rotates.
Table Rock House Restaurant – right at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls.
Queen Victoria Place Restaurant – classic views in a slightly quieter setting.

You’re there. Enjoy the view.

Beyond the Main Strip

There are endless activities for kids around the Falls, but it’s worth venturing beyond the main tourist area.

Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

Just a short drive away, the Botanical Gardens are peaceful and beautifully maintained, a nice contrast to the Falls’ energy.

Niagara-on-the-Lake

About 20 minutes from the Falls is Niagara-on-the-Lake. It’s a beautiful drive, and you are rewarded with charming streets, boutique shops, ice cream, restaurants, and wine tasting.

If you’re traveling with kids, many vineyards in the Niagara region are family-friendly.

And don’t leave without trying ice wine, it’s a specialty of the region.

Where We Stayed

We stayed on the upper floors at the Sheraton Fallsview (connected to the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark).

You need a different key to access the upper guest floors.  Every night, the Falls are illuminated, and many nights include fireworks. Here are a few pictures from our room at night and during the day.

From our room, we had what felt like the best view. Watching the lights change over the water never got old.

It’s an easy drive from Massachusetts, about 7 to 8 hours depending on traffic. It’s worth the drive.
