South Shore Trails

Hanover, MA

Tucker Preserve – Pembroke & Hanover

It’s right between Pembroke and Hanover. There are trailheads on both sides, but we usually park on the Hanover side. That’s where the big rock formations are, and if you have kids, that’s the highlight. Mine have always loved climbing around on the rocks, exploring the little nooks, and turning it into their own mini adventure.

The trails are mostly flat and easy to walk, making them a great option for families, casual weekend hikes, or even a quick nature break after school.

Colby Phillips Trail

147-acre conservation area with about three miles of easy, well-marked trails. The walk begins with a boardwalk over wetlands and winds through wooded paths, over Cushing Brook, and past an old cemetery tucked into the trees.

We park across the street from Hanover Middle School. There are also trails behind the middle school that are fun to take with little kids because they lead to the school playgrounds.

Mass Audubon’s Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary

My favorite route was the Riverwalk loop to the Secret Trail, with a quick detour to the Observation Blind. Dogs are not allowed

Welcome Booth to get a map and read about the history.

Secret Trail

This Observation Station has a really cool view.

Nelson Memorial Forest

Off Union St. The Trails are wide and it takes you along the North River.

Willow Brook Farm

The signs steer you to the left in the direction of the observation tower, which is a nice trail, but before heading there, make sure to check out all the trails to the right.  When you see the open field keep walking to the big rocks to the right you will see a large rock, "Harry and Mary Todd Trail," down that trail, there are numerous boardwalks and trails to explore.

Hobomock Trail - Drive to the end of Learning Lane after driving past Hobomock Elementary and Pembroke High.

Veterans Town Forest - Next to the Pembroke Middle School, has lots of trails that lead you to Silver Lake.

Mattakeesett Street Fields - If you park in the parking lot walk towards the woods, there are a lot of nice trails back there.  Christina doesn't know the name but has been many times.

Tubbs Meadow - 2.7 miles of trails

Tucker Preserve - In Hanover and Pembroke

Plymouth, MA

Seaside Grace Trail

Hanover, MA

Colby Phillips Trail: It's less busy than other local trails and has nice, wide paths.  The dogs didn’t have any ticks after the walk because of the wide paths—Park at the entrance of the Hanover Middle School.  Walk across the street, and you will see the Hanover Greenway sign.

If you drive behind the Hanover Middle School in the back of the sports fields, there are different trails with many bridges. Following the main trail is great for little kids because it passes Cedar Elementary School, where they can play at the playground.

Luddams Ford Park is typically the busiest but worth it as you walk along a river.

Chapman's Landing & Iron Mine Brook Trails are 2.3 miles of trails.  Located on the other side of the street from Luddams Ford Park. At 2 Indian Head Drive.

Forge Pond - When you pull into the parking lot, the trail is to the right and leads you to conservation land.

Duxbury, MA

Cape Cod

Eastham Red Maple Swamp Trail Fort Hill

Provincetown Causeway

Begin your 2.5-mile walk along the giant rock breakwater from the Lands End Inn. If street parking is full, there are public lots down the street. Metered parking is available for three hours, which is the perfect amount of time for the walk and a few minutes at the beach. If you want more time to relax at the beach, metered parking won’t work, as the maximum is 3 hours.

Before heading out, check the tide schedule, as some rocks are submerged during high tide. On the day we went, low tide was at 1 pm, so we started our walk around 11 am. The causeway ends at Long Point Beach. You can choose to end your walk or continue toward the lighthouse.

We decided to walk beside the jetty through the sandbar on our way back to look at the sea creatures in the tide pools.

Enjoy your walk!
