Must-Do (At Least Once) Experiences on the South Shore

One of the reasons I love living and working on the South Shore of Massachusetts is that no two weekends ever look the same — and every season brings something completely different.

1. Go Skydiving in Hanson, Massachusetts

Skydive South Boston is located in Hanson, just off Route 27. There’s about a 20-minute plane ride before the jump, which honestly makes the experience even more worth it. You get incredible views of the South Shore coastline, Boston in the distance, and even out toward Cape Cod on a clear day.

It’s not something most people associate with suburban South Shore living, which is exactly why it’s such a fun surprise.

Even if you never jump, watching the parachutes drift down over Hanson on a summer day is pretty amazing.

2. Take a Whale Watch Out of Plymouth Harbor

Out of historic Plymouth Harbor, Captain John’s Whale Watching & Fishing Tours runs trips to Stellwagen Bank, one of the richest whale feeding grounds in the world, and a federally protected marine sanctuary.

The boats head past Plymouth Beach and Gurnet Light before reaching open water. Then it becomes real.

3. Spend a Day at King Richard’s Faire

Every fall in Carver, the woods transform into something completely unexpected at King Richard’s Faire.

It runs late summer through mid-fall and has been a South Shore tradition for decades.

Jousting. Costumed performers. Handmade crafts. Music. Giant turkey legs. It’s immersive and slightly chaotic in the best way.

It’s one of those experiences that makes you say, “Wait… this is right here on the South Shore?”

Pro Tip:
Buy your tickets in advance. Peak weekends sell out, especially during foliage season and arrive early.

4. See the Christmas Lights at La Salette Shrine

Every December, La Salette Shrine in Attleboro transforms into one of the most beautiful Christmas light displays in Massachusetts.

Over 300,000 lights cover the grounds. You walk through peaceful pathways, nativity scenes, and glowing displays that feel both festive and calming.

It’s free to attend (donations are welcome), and many South Shore families do so year after year.

Local tip:
Go on a weekday if you can. Weekend parking can take time, especially closer to Christmas. Dress warmly, you’ll be outside walking the grounds.

Why I Love Sharing This

When people think about moving to the South Shore, they often focus on schools, commute times, and home prices.

All important.

But lifestyle matters just as much.

The ability to:
• Whale watch on a Saturday
• Step into a Renaissance village in the fall
• Or jump out of a plane over cranberry bogs

That’s what makes living here different.

If you’re considering buying or selling on the South Shore, I’m always happy to talk not just about the market, but about what life here actually looks like.

Because choosing where you live isn’t just about the house.

It’s about the weekends.
